GridView

GridView offers detailed insights into AusNet’s electricity distribution network to help technical and non-technical users explore community energy and electrification opportunities.

GridView Improvement Group

The GridView Improvement Group (GIG) is a collaborative forum established by AusNet to guide the ongoing development of GridView – a publicly available software platform that provides visibility into AusNet’s medium and low voltage networks. The GIG brings together community energy advocates, council representatives, technical experts, and AusNet staff to ensure GridView continues to support the transition to a renewable energy future.

Purpose

The GIG plays a central role in ensuring GridView remains a fit-for-purpose tool that supports:

  • community energy (CE) project development
  • optimal siting of renewable generation and storage (including community batteries)
  • expansion of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure
  • local electrification and net zero efforts.

AusNet seeks the GIG’s input on data priorities, usability enhancements, and strategies to improve energy literacy and awareness of GridView.

Membership

Membership is determined by AusNet and includes:

  • community energy advocates to guide GridView’s future direction
  • council representatives including greenhouse alliance networks
  • AusNet staff members
  • advisors/observers such as academics, universities, and government departments.

Members are selected based on their professional or personal interest in GridView and their ability to represent user needs.

Governance

The GIG is overseen by AusNet’s Grid Evolution team and operates as an advisory body. While it does not hold formal decision-making authority, its feedback informs the GridView improvement roadmap. The Innovation Advisory Committee (IAC) will be updated on GIG outcomes when relevant.

Meetings
  • Held approximately twice per year, virtually
  • Duration: 1–3 hours
  • Membership is voluntary and unpaid
  • Minutes are documented and will be published here
Review of Terms of Reference

The Terms of Reference are reviewed annually. Feedback is welcomed during meetings or out of session.
